Naturalist Intelligence

In this post we will explain about the Naturalist Intelligence, which was an intelligence that Dr. Howard Gardner added to his list in 1996. It was his first addition to the original list of 7 intelligences.

This intelligence deals with understanding, observing and organizing patterns in the natural environment. Mainly people with sensibility to this intelligence shows interest in classification of animals and plants, human behaviors and habitats of other species.



How to identify students with the Naturalist Intelligence?
Some characteristics of this students are:
- Likes to learn about nature;
- Enjoys having pets;
- Easily learn characteristics, names, categorizations, and data about objects or species found in the natural world;
- Likes to explore looking at and under rocks, peering through magnifiers or microscopes to look at soil or sand.
- They like to watch clouds, sunset, rainbow.


How can EFL teachers develop the Naturalist Intelligence in the second language classroom?
- Doing classes visiting zoos and botanical gardens
- Organizing collections
- Doing experiments in nature
- Using magnifiers or microscopes to study nature
- Doing wildlife protection projects;
